I’m stealing this comment because it really does hit the nail on the head of why your “Liberal” (not all us are) friends might not want to be associated with you if you voted for Trump. I never thought about it this way, but the comment below really hit the nail on the head for me. You’re pissed off about bathrooms, Obamacare, jobs… Things that I, too, care about. I get it- too many special snowflakes, a need for improved jobs/economy. Believe it or not, most people agree on these points. However you say that “we” need to suck it up for the next 8 years. Let me ask you, were you ever afraid for your life or ability to actually live your life as you wanted to because of Obama? Because of Hillary? At any time, did you think that the “liberal” (even though, again, not all of us are) would physically attack you? Physically inhibit your everyday life? This comment that I read on someone else’s post sums it up much better than I do:
“…the so-called “conservatives” were afraid Clinton (and then Obama) would take their guns and ask them to pay their fair share of taxes. We are afraid that the unbridled racism, sexism, homophobia and xenophobia of Trump followers could cost many of us our lives. Not even a close contest.”
This is why “we” have gotten distant and don’t want to really be a part of your lives anymore. What’s worse is that you’ve gone silent or “but, but, but” as Trump appoints more bigots and people who are actually NOT LGBT friendly in his cabinet. Hate crimes have skyrocketed and you want to say that they’re fake so that liberals (not all of us are) can make up shit.
I will repeat this quote from Martin Niemoller because its so apropos:
“First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”
Your silence on this is deafening. I am a woman, single, half black, strong minded, educated and aggressive. I’m everything that this administration hates. I have lived through both Bushes, the last one I could not stand, but never felt threatened. I thought his polices sucked and at times made my life harder financially, but I never felt hated or disrespected by his administration. I believe in the second amendment and I live in Chicago, yet I never felt a pressing need to purchase a gun. Now, I absolutely know that I need to. I ask myself why? What is different? What is different is the above, and you, my ‘friends’ approval and silence at what is going on. Because of your silent approval, I feel the need to arm myself not only from the vocal threat, but also from those who I once deemed as ‘friends’.
So if you don’t understand and think we are whining, over dramatic, etc… know that you allowed a professed racist and misogynist to rule the country who has no fucking clue what the US Constitution even SAYS. We feel the need to protect ourselves now from you.
Had it been any other Republican, or any other candidate at all to take the presidency, you’d not see this division you see now.
So yes, 3 week from now, I am carrying because I can’t count on you to stop them from coming for me.
I killed off “Tekwh0re” a few years ago because she wasn’t really needed anymore. She’s needed now, again, more than ever.
I will not give up my country without a fight. I will always defend your right to SAY what you think but the moment you TRY to infringe on my right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, we have issues.
I always joked that I was ready for the Zombie Apocalypse. All my self-defense skills. All my technical know how. My abilities to live and innovate “in the rough”. Never did I think the “Zombie Apocalypse” would come in the form of my fellow countrymen. Never in a million years.
But you gotta fight on your hands… I will not let what I believe in go easily down. Don’t let them win.
